AT HOME_ my home

INSIGHTS - Hannelore Veelaert for au pays des merveilles and ikea-6280

After all that teasing, I’m finally sharing the last post about my ikea x au pays des merveilles collab today!   As you may remember, I was sharing a house before, which had its perks, but after sharing homes for the past 7 years, I really felt the need for a place of my own.  So once I found a job, I kept an eye on the ads and after 6 months or so I finally found that dream place.  With a limited budget (I’m still only an intern after all) it wasn’t easy, but I managed to find a charming place in my old neighborhood of Zurenborg.

Even though it took quite a while before it was fully furnished, I immediately felt at home thanks to the big windows, white walls, my plants and my books.  Now that it’s somewhat “done” (I still plan on making a bedside table and lamp myself), I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

With a mix of Ikea, second hand furniture (those two cupboards, the stool next to my bed and that rotan chair), DIY pieces (that coffee table / magazine rack and the lamps in the living and sleeping area), hand-me-downs (the chairs and the dresser, which I painted white), and a few more “expensive” items (the carpet and pillows) I’ve managed to achieve exactly the effect I wanted.

I did learn a few things though: even though I didn’t really buy a lot of new decoration since I’ve moved, it seemed that my previous bedroom could withstand more deco than this studio, despite its bigger size.  The fact that the bedroom and living room are combined in one space, made it feel cluttered rather quickly.  I selected my favorites and hid a few other things (that’s where that storage space in the sofa comes in handy!), and now I feel like it’s much more balanced.

The kitchen turned out to lack a bit in storage space, but thanks to the shelf (which was already there, and it matches my diy coffee table!), a few handy solutions from Ikea and a lot of glass jars, I’ve managed to find a place for everything, while still looking more or less organized and clean.  (Admittedly, the walls could use a layer of paint.  Or two.)

I also thought entering the space through my “bedroom” would bother me and considered putting up a light curtain around the bed, but now I prefer the openness and I don’t really mind.

It took me quite a while before I owned a couch, but now that I have one, it’s my favorite spot in the studio.  I can spend hours reading or browsing pinterest on the sofa, occasionally looking around the studio and thinking to myself how happy I am to have a place of my own, filled with things I love.  It might be cheesy, but it’s so true.

Succes ermee!
